Jemtlander and Hilleberg the Tentmaker

Hilleberg - the tentmakers, has been successfully manufacturing tents since 1973. The business was started by Bo Hilleberg and eventually involved the whole family. Over the years, the task has been to develop, manufacture and sell tents. At the same time, a solid and deep knowledge in the whole area of staying in the wilderness has been built up. This knowledge has been very useful for the development of other products.

A particularly important area is the different ways of manually transporting your equipment. For 40 years, Hilleberg has provided training for staff from its dealers around Europe. The courses have mainly taken place in the Jämtland mountains during summer and winter and have lasted about a week with accommodation in tents. Movement has taken place every day, and for transportation of equipment during the winter courses, participants have alternated between backpacking and sledging. This has provided a thorough knowledge of how sleds and backpacks should be constructed.

In addition to courses, Hilleberg owners and employees have made many tours of their own during both summer and winter, which of course has also provided plenty of experience.

With this knowledge as a basis and with the growing need in mind, Bo Hilleberg, the founder of "Hilleberg the Tentmakers", began to consider various possibilities for a new product line. The most urgent area was the transportation of equipment in winter, given that winter tours are normally more equipment-intensive than the summer months.

Jemtlander's Vision

To offer a versatile and robust sled, designed to easily and safely transport your equipment in all types of winter conditions, while being adaptable for both adults and children.

The goal was to create a well-designed and well-functioning sled that easily accommodates a significant amount of winter gear and is easy to pack. The sled should be stable so that it does not tip over even when fully packed. It is also important that the sled with all accessories, buckles, etc., can be handled with gloves on.

It should also be easy to bring the equipment into a tent, cabin or snow hut. The sled should also be easily converted into a children's sled. In case of any damage, it should be easy to repair it in the field.

For those who want to have the sled equipped according to their own wishes, it should be possible to buy parts and accessories to "build" a sled based on their personal needs and uses.

Jemtlander's Mission

To enhance and simplify your adventure by offering a reliable, Swedish-made sled, built with local expertise and a passion for the wilderness, that ensures your experience and safety on every trip.

The sled should be useful both on long mountain trips and with children in local terrain. Jemtlander is a Swedish product. Most of it is manufactured and developed in Jämtland, close to the mountains and large forest areas. Components are supplied by companies in Östersund, in addition to some parts purchased from neighboring regions.

To create better conditions and focus resources, the company Jemtlander AB was started. Lennart Mörtsell, an experienced entrepreneur with a great interest in the wilderness, was hired. After an initial development phase, Bo's son, Rolf Hilleberg, also became involved in the company. Rolf has previously been CEO of Hilleberg the Tentmaker. Jemtlander is based in Frösön in Jämtland.
